Acconunodations: Yavapai East is a modern two-story complex; its
rooms have two double beds, full bath or shower, television, and telephone. Yavapai West is situated in pine and sagebrush; its rooms have two queen-size beds, full bath or shower, television, and telephone.
Spots, activities and attractions: From the Yavapai Observation Center, you can drive twenty-five miles to Desert View; the highlight here is the Watchtower, a 70-foot-tall 1930s interpretation of what an ancient Native American tower might have looked like. There are Hopi murals and petroglyphs. Climb the winding stairs for a spectacular vista. Three miles west of Desert View are the Tusayan Ruins, an Anasazi Indian site. A great rimside picnic spot is the Buggeln Picnic area, about one mile east of Grandview Point on East Rim Drive. Hiking a portion of the South Kaibib Trail, which begins near Yaki Point on East Rim Drive, will offer you and your children another up-close canyon view.
