Another great way to escape the summer valley crowds is White Wolf, between Tuolumne and the Valley offTioga Road. The lodge is a popular base for day hikes or half-day guided horseback rides to Lukens and Harden lakes. There are riding stables near the lodge.
Season: Mid-June through Labor Day.
Accommodations: The lodge has twenty-four rustic canvas tent cab-ins with beds (all bedding is included) and four cabins with private bath.
Special Features: There are no cooking facilities; simple meals are available in a lovely old clapboard dining hall.
Spots, activities and attractions: Camp store, easy access to lakes. A popular guided four-hour picnic hike to Lukens Lake leaves once a week from the trailhead 1.8 miles east of White Wolf on Tioga Road. Check for the schedule when you arrive.
