Accommodations: First built in 1846 as a thatched structure, the hotel has undergone many restorations and incarnations. Its forty-two rooms are currently furnished in a modern style with rare koa wood furniture and Hawaiian quilts. In 1935, R4iley's Believe It or Not claimed that the fire in the hotel's fireplace had been burning continuously for sixty-one years.

Cost: The least expensive accommodations are in the Ohia Wing; they do not have a crater view. Rooms $82 per night, double occupancy; each additional person $10. Children twelve and under stay free in parents' rooms.
