Note: Reservations are accepted beginning the first Monday in December for the following summer. Due to space limitations, only 10 percent of those who apply are accepted.
Merced Lake, Vogelsang, Glen Aulin, May Lake, and Sunrise camps are all located roughly eight strenuous miles apart in spectacular mountain settings. These accommodations are in great demand, as they offer a truly magnificent outdoor experience. Visitors can either hike or ride in on their own or participate in a variety of guided hikes or saddle trips of four to six days. All trips depart from Tuolumne Meadows. Trips are appropriate for children over seven.
Season: Late June to Labor Day, conditions permitting.
Accommodations: Camps have dorm-style tent cabins with guests segregated by sex. Cabins are furnished with beds, a blanket or quilt, and a pillow. Guests bring their own sheets; Traveler'sheets, which weigh much less than regular sheets, can be purchased when you register. There are central restrooms with hot showers (welcome at the end of a day on the trail). Most cabins are equipped with a wood stove for heat; no electricity or phones.
Special Features: Hearty breakfast and dinner are served in a central dining tent.

Spots, activities and attractions: Glen Aulin Camp is four miles from magnificent Waterwheel Fall. May Lake Camp is on the shore of May Lake beneath the eastern wall of Mount Hoffman. Sunrise Camp is located on a long narrow shelf forty feet above Long Meadow. Merced Lake Camp is on the Merced River and is the camp at the lowest elevation. Vogelsang Camp is the highest and the most dramatic, situated above the treeline near many alpine lakes.
