You will feel like you've made a trip to the moon when visiting this landscape of strange and eerie eroded buttes, ridges, and canyons. Bison, pronghorn, mule deer, prairie dogs, and coyotes drift across the old homesteads and hunting grounds of the Sioux Indians. The ranger-led children's programs and fossil trails are worth joining, as the park has preserved 37- to 23-million-year-old fossils of extinct animals as well as sites important to Indian history.
